The residents of New Jersey's Essex County's South Mountain area organized a massive deer hunt to exterminate the issue of deer as pests, eating their gardens, garbage, and causing traffic accidents.
Rather than develop the necessary long term preventative measures (ie: fences) to keep deer out of suburban areas, they decided to KILL THEM ALL.
I was at the time visiting a friend of mine who was part of the committee who failed to convince their local representative to go against the popular vote to have all these beautiful animals hunted.
